Established in 1958, Shady Shores is a 7 cabin retreat on the beautiful shores of Lake Huron in Oscoda, Michigan. For the last 20 years, Shady Shores was privately owned as a family retreat. In 2019, it was purchased and opened to the public for the first time in nearly two decades.

No, we’re a three season resort. We open in April and shut down sometime between November and December depending on the weather.
There is no smoking (of anything) in any structure with a roof.

Booking payment is due in full at time of booking. Any bookings cancelled 30 days or more prior to that booking’s check-in date will be refunded fully. Cancellations made between 15 and 30 days prior to the check-in date will be refunded 50% of the full booking price, including applicable taxes and fees. Booking cancellations that are made within 14 days of the check-in date are non-refundable.
Yes, there are discounted rates for booking the entire facility. On the weeks including memorial day, fourth of july, and labor day there are no discounts for group bookings.
Yes. Modern bidets are environmentally friendly, sanitary, and very beneficial for septic systems, which Shady Shores has.

Shady Shores provides bed linens and blankets, but you must bring your own towels. Our kitchens include plates, bowls, cups, and flatware for four. Cabins include basic kitchen utensils, pots, and pans. Appliances include a refrigerator, small range/oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and teapot. Each unit also includes a smart TV.
We have queen sized gel topped, hypoallergenic foam mattresses.
Yes. We have a Google wifi network over the whole resort. Our internet is generally solid, but we do have periods where connections can lag, typically during heavy rains.
Nothing. We do nothing with your data. We will only communicate with you regarding your stay at Shady. We don’t track or sell anything.
Shady Shores is easy to find along the eastern coast of Michigan on North US Highway 23. This road is also known as North Huron Road.
Most GPS systems have no problem locating us. Unfortunately, Iosco County has not been completely mapped yet by GIS, the system that feeds Google and Apple Maps, so those systems have a hard time locating us. We suggest using Bing as an alternative. Bing uses a different system, so they find us no problem.

Don't drive past us this year because we look a little different. The cabins all got a gorgeous blue paint job, so be on the lookout this summer when you drive up.
Good news! We've updated all of our cabins with new heating and cooling units, so no more fiddling with gas heaters! Now they're all electric and remote controlled high-efficiency mini split heat pumps.
If you were wondering what the construction south of Oscoda has been about, in 2021 the city approved the installation of a sewer line that will extend down to us here at Shady Shores.
